Nixon Gitau

AYP Certified Teacher, Boxing Coach

I was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. For the past three years, I have been teaching yoga through the Africa Yoga Project (AYP) and been a boxing coach for at-risk youth in the slums of Nairobi. I teach ten yoga classes and five boxing classes per week, for adults and children living in my formal settlement.

What makes me smile most is the fulfillment I receive when I share the practice of yoga; one that inspired me and gave me access to fulfilling my vision as a human being within this world. My aspirations are to reach more people in my community, to leave them inspired and, to awaken their profound potential of being. My biggest influence as a yoga teacher is the opportunity to serve and leave another human being in a position where there are free to be and free to act; relishing in their own personal power.

Yoga has changed my life and made me a better person. It has connected me to people across the globe. I used to be involved in violent activities but it has made me a catalyst of peace everywhere. I believe that sharing what I have gained through AYP will transform my community.

Africa Yoga Project Educates, Empowers, Elevates and Expands Employability with youth in Africa using the transformational practice of yoga. Our vision is to create opportunities for youth to step into their greatness and become self-sustaining leaders in their communities.
