Job Description: Programs Coordinator

The Africa Yoga Project (AYP) Mission is to educate, empower, elevate, and expand employment with youth in Africa using the transformational practice of yoga.

AYP was created to train youth and build the wellness industry so that youth from marginalized communities earn a self-sustaining income as community leaders.

Based in Nairobi, Kenya, AYP serves diverse and marginalized communities. Through partnership with previously marginalized youth who are now yoga teachers, AYP currently provides more than 300 free classes per week to more than 6,000 community members. Since it was created, AYP has trained more than 200 yoga teachers in Kenya to serve across the country and beyond.

AYP operates on the belief that if marginalized youth complete AYP training, which includes leadership, physical, mental, and social health, and community building, then their incomes, self-efficacy, health, and positive civic engagement will increase.

The Program Coordinator for AYP is responsible for the day-to-day operations of AYP’s Ambassador, Mentor and Seva Safari programs, ensuring successful planning, implementation, reporting and evaluation of each program.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Generate program enrollment through outreach and social media initiatives.
  • Responsible for all correspondence, both written and verbally, with potential and current program participants including emails, conference calls and providing general support for all questions regarding each program.
  • Creates budgets and tracks expenses for each program.
  • Maintain and monitor collection of participant enrollment information and payments, using AYP’s online system.
  • Works with Executive Director, US Managing Director and Kenya General Manager to develop, improve, and maintain program processes and procedures.

Required Qualifications

A related degree or the equivalent in experience. Three years of experience in project coordination. Highly organized with experience in a fast-paced environment a must. Supervisory experience is a plus.

Work Environment

Position will be based in either Kenya or the United States. If based in the U.S., it will be a work from home position.  If the position is based in Kenya, previous supervisory experience is plus.

This position may require longer hours and weekend work.

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Compensation: commensurate with experience.


The Programs Coordinator will be granted vacation leave and sick leave in accordance with the labor laws of either the US or Kenya, depending on where it is decided the position will be based.
