The Africa Yoga Project (AYP) mission is to educate, empower, elevate, and expand employability with youth in Africa using the transformational practice of yoga.

AYP trains youth and builds the wellbeing industry so that youth from marginalized communities earn a self-sustaining income as community leaders.

Based in Nairobi, Kenya, AYP serves diverse and marginalized communities, through partnership with previously marginalized youth who are now yoga teachers, AYP currently provides more than 360 free classes per week to more than 6,000 community members. Since it was created, AYP has trained more than 380 yoga teachers in Kenya to serve across Kenya and beyond. AYP operates on the belief that if marginalized youth complete AYP training, which includes leadership, physical, mental and social health, and community building, then their incomes, self-efficacy, health, and positive civic engagement will increase.

Reports To: Executive Director

Job location: Nairobi, Kenya

Summary: This position will inspire the creation of more wellbeing practitioners and yoga teachers in East Africa! The General Manager leads the global team in their respective finance, accounting, programs, human resources and operations job responsibilities.

Job Description

  • Lives and leads the AYP core values.
  • Close leadership of the AYP management team: Academy Manager, Communications Consultant, Finance Manager, M&E/Grants Manager, and Programs Manager.  
  • Ensures the productivity and professional growth of the management team.
  • Regular reporting to the Executive Director and Governance Board on programmatic, finance and operations matters.

Start and Duration

This is a rolling contract, starting in May 2019 and starting with a six-month probation period.

Working hours

Working hours will be 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday, with half-days on Saturdays (9:00am to 1:00pm) and Sundays off. This may be adjusted with supervisor approval, as long as it fulfills the 45-hour workweek.


Commensurate with experience.

AYP Benefits

All staff members may take free yoga at the AYP classes’ studio. AYP staff members may use studio space on a case-by-case basis. There is a form to apply for use of the space with no guaranty of approval. Use of the space cannot conflict with regularly scheduled AYP classes and events.

Comprehensive health insurance (Kenya) will be provided upon completion of six-month probation period.

One annual repatriation flight, roundtrip from Kenya to your home country (if not Kenya), will be provided by AYP after completing one year with the organisation.


After completion of 12 months of continuous service to AYP in any position you will be entitled to 24 working days local leave for each completed year of service.
