ALEX GITONGA
Level One and Two Baptiste, 200Hr AYP, Ashtanga and Level One Kundalini Trained
My name is Alex Gitonga. I grew up in Embu, at the slopes of Mount Kenya. It was during my time in school when my interest in yoga began. I came across a yoga book and as a member of my school’s acrobatics gymnastic team, I was inspired by the various poses shown. I began training myself, with guidance from the book, until I found I had been making some mistakes with the foundation of the poses and acquired a few injuries. After completing primary and high school, I moved to Nairobi where I now live and work.
Upon reaching Nairobi, I started training with friends in acrobatics, gymnastics, and Tong Il Moo Do - a Korean martial art. It was these friends who introduced me to the Africa Yoga Project (AYP). Through AYP I was able to complete Level One and Level Two of Baptiste yoga (in Malindi), the 200Hr AYP Teacher Training, a Beginner’s Teacher Level in Ashtanga yoga, and become certified by K.R.I. in level one Kundalini yoga.
I am incredibly grateful to all the teachers who have been involved in my development as both a student and a teacher. My role models include Leonardo Da Vinci and Bruce Lee. My greatest moments of being is when I can witness union in all things.
