AMOS Ngarura

My name is Amos Ngarura. I was born Deaf. I was raised in Kiambu County but currently am living in Nairobi. I am a Deaf professional yoga instructor at the Africa Yoga Project. I have taught yoga classes for both Deaf and hearing students in silent yoga classes. I teach through means of body language and eye contact to ease our communication. Most of the time, I am teaching yoga classes in gyms, homes, halls, or outreaches at schools for both the hearing and Deaf. Within my classes, I hope to inspire and empower students especially in dance for kids’ yoga. Also after my yoga classes, I oftentimes teach my hearing clients sign language.

My hobbies are dancing, travel, reading, swimming, listening to music, and watching movies - I especially love to dance! From 2010 to 2014 I did dance training at Sarakasi Dome, which made me able to experience performances and shows at different stages. My hero Is my mother.

My mission is to empower and employ youth in the community using sign language to create opportunities of job access into different services for the Deaf and reduce big challenges in communication amongst and within communities.

Africa Yoga Project Educates, Empowers, Elevates and Expands Employability with youth in Africa using the transformational practice of yoga. Our vision is to create opportunities for youth to step into their greatness and become self-sustaining leaders in their communities.
